Chapter Nine

Georgia

Looking down at my arm, I see the purple bruise. Yesterday was the first time really that Edward has marked me. He’s been physical with me before, but I’ve never really had any proper marks on me. After Jack left, Edward was waiting for me. I have never seen such anger in his eyes; I’d genuinely feared for my life. The girls had been upstairs in their bedroom and didn’t actually see anything, although I bet, they heard everything. I can’t go on like this anymore, I hate my life.

“I need some more beer; go and fucking get some.”

I look up to Edward standing in my bedroom. A rage like no other builds in me and before I can stop myself, I’m shouting back at him. “Go fucking get it yourself. I’m fucking done with your shit now.” I stand up, making myself seem more confident than I actually am.

“What the fuck did you just say to me?”

I see the rage from last night appear in his eyes again, and I fear what he will do but I have to stand up to him. I can’t keep living like this anymore.

“I’m done with you now. I want a divorce.” My body is shaking, and before I know it, he is standing before me and has my hair in a tight grip.

I cry out in pain. “Get off me.”

“You’re fucking going nowhere. I think it’s time a started teaching you a lesson.” He forcefully pushes me to the floor, and the next thing I know, his foot is connecting with my ribs. I curl up in a ball and fear for my life. He’s never hit me like this before and I’m scared of what he will do. “It’s that fucking prick who was here yesterday making you say these words—making you want to leave. Well, I’m telling you now, I see him anywhere near this house again, I’ll fucking kill him.” He gives me another kick to the ribs, just as the both girls appear at the bedroom.

“Leave her alone! I hate you; I hate you!” Victoria is the first by my side with Maria right behind her. They both lay on me cuddling me. I’m finding it hard to breathe now, so no doubt my ribs are cracked. I look into the girls’ eyes and see them both with tears rolling down their cheeks. I have to get us all away from here. I can’t keep them here and have their lives in danger like this. Who is to say he won’t turn on them? I see Edward walking out of the room and I try to move to sit up but a sharp pain radiates right though me and I cry out.

“Mum, please I’m scared. Are you okay?”

“I’m okay, baby girl—it just hurts on my ribs. Help me up slowly,” I say looking at them both. Slowly, with the help of the girls, I’m able to stand up. The pain is unbearable, but I try to hide it from them.
